Making an appointment

Important Information

We offers appointments and assessments in English and in French

  • If a family member uses a wheelchair please note that I usually work on the first floor and there is no lift in the building. Given enough notice, we can make special arrangements.

  • If you have any professional reports from other specialists, or school reports, please send us copies of them beforehand (at least a week) via my email address [email protected]

  • At the door, ring the bell for the ground floor. The receptionist will answer the door.

  • To book a consultation we require a deposit payment of the full sum to secure your appointment (this will be refunded to you according to the cancellation policy).

  • Please address post to 35 Great James Street, London WC1N 3HB.

  • If you are driving in, do note that we are in the Congestion/T-Charge zone 7am-6pm on weekdays. See www.tfl.gov.uk.
  • Parking is tight in the surrounding streets. If you are coming by car, it’s usually best to use the large car parks such as the Brunswick Square NCP or Bloomsbury Square Secure Parking which are about 15 minutes walk away. Otherwise have a look at www.en.parkopedia.co.uk. If you fancy your chances with street parking you will need a mobile phone and a RingGo app. Do allow plenty of parking time as although I try hard to run to time I simply cannot consistently do so as there may be unexpected crises or unforeseen complex issues.
  • The nearest tube stations are Chancery Lane (Grays Inn Road exit), Holborn (but busy road traffic crossings) or Russell Square. All are about 15 minutes away.

Referral letters

Patients who come to see us are usually referred by another Doctor, most often a general practitioner or a paediatrician. The reasons to do this are that:

  • Health insurance companies often require it.
  • We would need professional information on the child’s background and development.
  • We may need to ask the doctor to carry out further treatments and it is unlikely that he or she will accept to do this without having previously been involved with the referral.
  • In the UK healthcare system, the GP holds the overall view of any individual’s health and represents the gatekeeper to specialist care. It is good practice to recognise this.
  • Our  will is to make the child feel, each time possible, that most people being interested in his fulfillment are working together as a team.

Insurance

There is usually no difficulty with health insurance reimbursement but you should check with your company beforehand. Not all UK health insurance policies cover psychiatry, so-called chronic disorders, “developmental problems” or what they call behavioural problems. The occasional company resists a charge over £180 for a first appointment because in most areas of medicine an assessment lasts 30 minutes. Although it is possible to carry out an assessment over two or three appointments, charging for each separately, this takes much longer and will not always solve the problem as insurance may well only pay for the first appointment.

Our  contract is with you, not with your insurance company.
We cannot get involved with major correspondence with your insurance company on your behalf, and we need to say that in bringing your child to see us or in booking an appointment for you, you accept the responsibility to pay our fee if your insurance does not.
